
Carissa Lawson is the morning news anchor at News 12 New Jersey. She is a New York City native who grew up in Queens. Lawson is a proud graduate of New York University with a degree in broadcast journalism. Lawson left the greater New York area after college graduation to pursue her broadcasting career with a dream of someday returning. She spent nearly a decade working her way up the ranks in North Carolina. She then went on to anchor the evening news at the CBS affiliate in Louisville, Kentucky, before making her way back to the Northeast with an exciting stint at CBS News as a freelance correspondent in New York City. During that time, she accomplished three major things all at once: She moved to a different state, had her first child and started a brand-new job! She tells people the experience has taught her you can do just about anything with prayer and perseverance.Lawson has won an Associated Press Award for feature reporting. She co-anchored the newscast at the CBS affiliate in Louisville that received the prestigious Edward R. Murrow Award for best newscast. She was also part of the CBS affiliate team that received the coveted National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) Service to America Television Award, among the highest public-service honors in broadcasting, that honors exceptional public and community service. Upon graduation from NYU, Lawson earned the James Fenimore Cooper Memorial Prize, which is presented annually to the most outstanding undergraduate student of journalism. She was also inducted into the Kappa Tau Alpha National Honor Society in journalism and mass communication.nullLawson is the mother of a wonderful little girl who keeps her Mommy busy! She is co-leader of her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop and volunteers for the Parent Teachers Organization at her daughter’s school. She enjoys traveling in her time off and is also a vegetarian who advocates for healthy living. She enjoys every opportunity she can get to help others understand the lifesaving importance of leading a healthier lifestyle. The passing of her aunt due to breast cancer has strengthened her convictions about a way of life she tries her best to live out each day.
